Certain vehicles in the automotive industry produce legions of “fanboys” who drool over spy photos of the latest generation and talk tech specs on automotive forums, often having never seen – yet alone set foot in – an actual example of the car in question. The Nissan Skyline is one such automobile in the United States, as enthusiasts have continually languished over the car’s non-existence (outside of the grey market) in the U.S.
So it was with high anticipation that Skyline aficionados awaited the all-new Nissan GT-R, a modern take on the Skyline, available here, that was officially revealed today.
No doubt about it, the car is looking impressive. A mid-mounted 3.8-liter V6 engine with “plasma-sprayed” cylinder bores. Two turbochargers. 473 horsepower and 433 foot-pounds of torque. A six-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters. The world’s first “independent transaxle 4WD.” Bilstein DampTronic suspension. Yeah, this car should operate perfectly.
Pricing in the U.S. has not been announced, but analysts are expecting a $70,000 to $80,000 tag. As covered previously, Nissan really wants to ward off speculators seeking a quick buck. The GT-R competes with the Chevy Corvette Z06 and Porsche 911 Turbo. The car is scheduled to arrive this December.
